Invitation to Participate in a Webinar to Discuss the Community Selection Process and 2020 Community Recommendations under the Community Air Protection Program

The California Air Resources Board (CARB) invites you to participate in a webinar to discuss the selection of new communities in the Community Air Protection Program (Program). The Program was established under Assembly Bill (AB) 617 (C. Garcia, Chapter 136, Statutes of 2017) and is focused on improving air quality in communities disproportionately exposed to air pollution in California. CARB considers selection of new communities each year. In 2018 and 2019, CARB selected a total of 13 communities under the Program to develop local plans to measure and reduce air pollution. Work in these communities is underway.

The focus of this webinar is to start discussion on new community recommendations for the CARB Board to eventually consider at a CARB Board meeting in December 2020. Selected communities would begin work in 2021. CARB staff will kick-off discussion with an overview of the process and initial thoughts on new community recommendations, and then seek your feedback. During this webinar, you can ask questions, provide your own ideas on selection and the selection process, and engage in discussion. With the potential funding levels provided by the legislature, CARB staff anticipates a very limited number of new communities will be selected in 2020.
