Enhanced Air Quality Monitoring for Communities RFA#: EPA-OAR-OAQPS-22-01 Closing date: February 25, 2022 Summary:  Pursuant to the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 (ARP), EPA’s Office of Air Quality Planning & Standards (OAQPS) is announcing the availability of funds and soliciting applications from eligible entities to conduct ambient air monitoring of pollutants of greatest concern in communities with environmental and health outcome disparities stemming from pollution and the COVID-19 pandemic. EPA will award funds to support community and local efforts to monitor their own air quality and to promote air quality monitoring partnerships between communities and tribal, state, and local governments. The total estimated funding for this competitive opportunity is approximately $20,000,000. Reminder: Health Risk Assessment Capacity Building Session

The California Air Resources Board (CARB), Transportation and Toxics Division (TTD) is hosting an afternoon session in December to present an introduction to Health Risk Assessments (HRA). HRAs are used by a variety of government agencies to evaluate the potential health impacts of air pollution emissions. CARB is hosting a capacity building session to better equip attendees to understand the uses of HRAs and significance of information they provide in decision making at various levels of government. This interactive capacity building session will allow community advocates to better understand and utilize this important tool. Technical staff from CARB and the Office of Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA) will be available throughout the session to answer questions and listen to your suggestions.   Notice of Workshop for the 2021 Community Recommendations and Selection Process for the Community Air Protection Program en espaƱol The California Air Resources Board (CARB) invites you to participate in a virtual meeting to discuss CARB staff’s draft recommendations for 2021 communities and the community selection process under Assembly Bill (AB) 617 and the Community Air Protection Program (Program). During this virtual meeting, you can ask questions about the additional communities that staff is proposing to recommend for CARB Board consideration and CARB’s approach for developing the recommendations. The fellowship includes a $15,000 cash award, leadership training, access to a vibrant network of Switzer Fellowship alums, and opportunities for professional development and grants beyond the fellowship year. Students of color, first generation college or graduate students, and students from other groups traditionally underrepresented in environmental graduate programs are strongly encouraged to apply.
