RECORDING NOW AVAILABLE: EJ Storytelling Session July 9, 2020

Image
Click here for recording:  July 9th, EJ Storytelling Session Storytelling from EJ Communities The purpose of this platform is to provide a space for folks living in, and/or championing environmental justice communities, to share their stories in their own voice.  We hope this endeavor will help governmental staff grow beyond trainings that focus on how to speak to people; rather than understand & appreciate the conditions of others’ lives. The quality of life for many people living in EJ communities is so intertwined with systemic racism that it is impossible to discuss EJ without allowing community to speak freely about how it has affected their communities' in the past, as well as how it continues to affect them today.   On July 9, the first in the series of “Storytelling from EJ Communities” will feature Dillon Delvo, Little Manila in Stockton, and LaDonna Willians from All Positives Possible in Vallejo.  Dillon will speak on the history of the Filipino community’s margi

Improve Air Quality in Your Community through the CARB’s SEP Program

Image
Do you have a project idea to help clean the air in your community? If so, you can apply for project funding through California Air Resources Board’s (CARB) settlement of enforcement cases. This funding comes from a program called the Supplemental Environmental Projects (SEP) Program. Nonprofit organizations, tribal governments, local agencies, governments, businesses, and more can apply to be funded through this program. The program’s goal is to improve public health, reduce pollution, increase environmental compliance, and raise public awareness through education. Sometimes when regulated industries break air pollution control rules in California, they get a chance to directly help clean the air in local communities by funding SEP projects. Projects need to fall into certain categories, such as pollution prevention or reduction, environmental restoration and protection, environmental education and compliance training, community monitoring, and transboundary projects (which are

The California Strategic Growth Council (SGC) is pleased to release the first draft of its new Technical Assistance (TA) Guidelines for State Agencies . SGC encourages the members of the public to provide feedback on the document. Please email comments to TA@sgc.ca.gov by Monday, July 20, 2020 . These TA Guidelines provides tools, tips, and best practices to State agencies seeking to design and implement effective TA and capacity building programs. As directed by Senate Bill 1072 (Leyva, 2018), SGC designed the Guidelines to help State agencies to both deliver effective TA, and develop internal policies, standards, or practices to guide their provision of TA. In order to develop the document, SGC’s Community Assistance for Climate Equity team brought together a TA and capacity building workgroup comprising practitioners from across 13 State agencies. While State agencies serve as the main audience for the TA Guidelines, other stakeholders see
