Background
As required by State law
(Health and Safety Code Section 39700), CARB sponsors a research program
that is guided by the mission to provide sound and timely scientific
results to support CARB’s policies and programs. CARB’s research program
was established by the Legislature in 1971 and has formed the basis of
CARB’s programs since its inception. The research program’s goals of
informing health-based air quality standards, reducing air pollution
exposures, and protecting California from the potential impacts of climate
change have been met through a diverse portfolio of projects.
State law also required
that CARB establish the RSC to review proposed and completed research
projects. The RSC consists of physicians, scientists, biologist, chemist,
engineers, meteorologists, and other subject matter experts that have the
knowledge necessary to effectively advise on CARB’s health, environmental
justice, air quality, and climate research.
CARB invites anyone to
nominate qualified candidates or apply independently to serve on the RSC.
CARB is looking subject matter experts with recognized experience in the
specific subject they are applying under, and who are passionate about
research and putting it to public use as a tool to help meet the state’s
air quality and climate goals.
For details about the
roles and responsibilities of RSC members, visit the RSC webpage.
Nominations must be submitted by 5 P.M. Pacific Standard Time on April 8,
2022 to be considered. All nominations that are submitted by the due date
will be reviewed by CARB staff. Every nominee will be contacted and
provided with information on how to submit their application. Information
about all nominator’s will be kept confidential. The application period
will be open to nominees and anyone else interested in applying, regardless
of nomination status, until April 29, 2022.
