CARB Environmental Justice Blog

  CARB’s Office of Environmental Justice, Tribal Affairs, and Border Relations (OEJTB) has launched the revamped Environmental Justice (EJ) Blog using a new Substack platform. The EJ Blog aims to streamline access to various efforts and activities on CARB’s webpage and other related efforts to present a space with relevant content in the areas of EJ and equity. The EJ Blog is working to provide more direct access to information community members seek that is relevant to their needs and concerns.   Blogger will no longer be utilized moving forward. All blog posts will now be on the  Substack  platform.

Assembly Bill 617 (AB 617) aims to reduce exposure to air pollution and preserve public health by placing community voices at the heart of decision making. The California Air Resources Board (CARB) established the Program to work with communities, air districts, and other agencies to reduce exposure in the communities most impacted by air pollution. It may be a surprise that the changing seasons also bring very high air pollution, which can last for days or weeks at a time. The air pollution comes fr om vehicle exhaust, industrial emissions, heavy-duty trucks, agricultural burning, wildfire smoke, and even wood smoke from f ireplaces. Air pollution levels already exceeded healthy limits in Stockton over this Thanksgiving holiday weekend in 2023 (Figure 1).
