Extended Deadline for AB 617 Community Air Grant Applications
Applications must be submitted by April 24, 2023
The California Air Resources Board (CARB) is pleased to announce that the application period has been extended for the Community Air Grants Program (Air Grants Program). Applications are now due by April 24, 2023. Hard copy applications must be received by 5PM while electronic applications are due by 11:59 PM on April 24, 2023. Applications will not be accepted after this date.
If you have previously applied, your existing application will be considered. However, you have the option of re-submitting or augmenting your application, but it is not required. CARB will consider your latest submittal for scoring purposes. CARB intends to fund as many eligible community projects as is possible under this Program. However, only one application per applicant will be awarded.
The following are eligible to apply for a Community Air Grant under these solicitation Guidelines: A California community-based organization holding a current tax-exempt status under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code; A California organization, not affiliated with a local, municipal, city, county, or state governmental agency or entity, and holding a tax-exempt status under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code as the Grantee, in partnership with a California community-based organization without Section 501(c)(3) status designated as a sub-grantee; or A California Native American Tribe. For the purposes of this grant, this includes all Federally Recognized Tribes, and other California Native American Tribes, as defined by Governor’s Executive Order B-10-11. The total funding available for this round is $10 million.
The purpose of the Community Air Grants is to provide community-based organizations with logistical and technical assistance to support their efforts in improving local air quality. Projects are intended to further the purposes of AB 617 and AB 32 by designing and executing projects that build capacity in communities through supporting community-based organizations’ and community members’ participation in the Community Air Protection Program. Grants will be awarded on a competitive basis.

Background
The Air Grants Program is part of California Climate Investments, a statewide initiative that puts billions of Cap-and-Trade dollars to work reducing greenhouse gas emissions, strengthening the economy, and improving public health and the environment – particularly in disadvantaged communities.
To date, $19.6 billion in cap-and-trade proceeds has been appropriated to 22 state agencies that have distributed $11.4 billion to projects that are either completed or underway across the state. Nearly half of the $11.4 billion in implemented investments (nearly $5.4+ billion), is benefiting the state’s most vulnerable populations. Projects include affordable housing, renewable energy, public transportation, zero-emission vehicles, environmental restoration, more sustainable agriculture, recycling and much more.
